The 2012 Entourage of 7 Collection has arrived at Gafas Optical Shop. This is our favorite collection by this independent company to date. While they still create their titanium frames, they have begun to add interesting twists to a classic design, inlaying acetate around the lenses. Mixing materials, textures and colors is what makes this Entourage of 7 collection special and unique.

The “Yorba” has a metallic sheen in blue.

“Roy”; we love matte black frames. They are so classicly and impossibly chic!

The “El Monte” is mixing it up with graphite titanium and tortoise acetate

Crystal acetate inside the “Kyle” lightens up this black frame

The “Commerce” in a sleek mix of matte black titanium and polished tortoise acetate

Cult Eyewear

Posted on January 18th, 2012 by admin  |  Comments Off

There’s a new tome that we are jonesin’ to get onto our coffee tables STAT! “Cult Eyewear; The World’s Enduring Classics,” is the latest eyewear book that has us swooning. Neil Handley, curator of the British Optical Association Museum, has pulled together this beautiful publication which contains more than 500 historical and contemporary images. “Cult Eyewear” is focused on the aesthetic of the history of eyewear as opposed to the vision correction aspect of this current fashion obsession. It’s a concisely illustrated introduction to the evolution of stylish eyewear.

The book profiles the innovative designs and historically important inventions in eyewear dating back to the 1780s. Over 30 infamous and iconic brands are profiled, each chapter featuring the films and key personalities associated with particular designs or brands throughout the years (i.e. Elvis Presley and John Lennon), as well as little known anecdotes. Who knew that Dame Edna Everage’s glasses have “A hand job by Anglo American” etched in the inner temple?! We do now!  Although some brands are missing from the compilation, Handley acknowledges that it is due to an “inevitably, somewhat personal selection for the myriad of designer fashion brands…” So what iconic eyewear labels can you expect to see in the book?

American Optical, Anglo American, Cartier, Kirk Originals, Persol, Ray-Ban, Marly, Carrera, Porsche Design, Viennaline, Vuarnet, Neostyle, Silhouette, Christian Dior, Lafont, Robert La Roche, Cazal, Alain Mikli, Police, Mykita, Metzler and Polaroid!

“Cult Eyewear” is not just for eyewear aficionados and collectors. This is a coffee table book that will appeal to anyone with an eye for design or a passion for fashion.

Daniel Craig X Tom Ford

Posted on January 15th, 2012 by admin  |  Comments Off

It’s confirmed. Daniel Craig will be wearing Tom Ford Sunglasses in the next installment of the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, which will be released in 2012. Tom Ford has said that “[he] could not be happier to be dressing Daniel Craig again in the next James Bond film…James Bond epitomizes the Tom Ford man in his elegance, style and love of luxury.”

Daniel Craig has been on a winning streak with fantastic eyewear. He wore Mykita’s “Helmut” glasses in Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Here are some more insider tips about the latest installment in the Bond series courtesy of ScreenRant:

  • Skyfall will be shot on location in London (largely in the Whitehall area) as well as Shanghai in China, Istanbul in Turkey, and Scotland.
  • Javier Bardem is in fact (as he previously indicated) the primary antagonist of the film.
  • The film is reportedly not related to any previously-published Ian Fleming novel.
  • Ben WhishawAlbert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes are all confirmed to have roles in the movie.
  • Marlohe will portray a glamorous enigmatic character named Severine.
  • Harris will actually be playing a field agent named Eve and NOT classic Bond gal Moneypenny, as was previously rumored.
  • The title “has some emotional context which will be revealed in the film.”
  • Skyfall will be a standalone story and Quantum will not figure into the plot
  • Mendes says there will be plenty of action and big set pieces in the movie, mentioning that “the action needs to co-exist with the drama. That’s the balance we have to strike.”

Stay tuned for which Tom Ford frame will be chosen. We are looking forward to seeing the trailer for Skyfall!

New York photographer Tim Barber is all the rage, sought after for his high-energy and unique images. Barber grew up in Amherst Massachusetts and studied photography in Vancouver. He is a photographer, a curator and a designer, and runs his online gallery and image archive which he founded in 2005. We are loving this series of images he did of girls wearing glasses.
