Lena Dunham Sees the Big Picture

Have you seen the independent film Tiny Furniture? Actually, forget that….have you seen the critically acclaimed HBO series Girls? Do yourself a favour and check out the debut episode. I think it’s still available for free on the HBO website. Girls is the brainchild of emerging write/director Lena Dunham, who created some buzz after her debut feature, Tiny Furniture, won Best Narrative Feature and Best First Screenplay.

Girls has been described as, “one of the most original, spot-on, no-missed-steps series in recent memory”. While watching the pilot episode it’s hard to ignore the influence of Sex and the City, HBO’s original “female dramedy”, but that’s where it stops. As Dunham explains, “Sex and the City was women who figured out work and friends and now want to nail family life. There was this whole space that hadn’t really been addressed.”

Oh, did we mention Dunham has a thing for glasses? Well, it’s pretty obvious…
