Put your shades on and be ready to keep them on all day and all night! This month Music Festivals like Veld, Osheaga, and Wemf is a great way to the beginning of the end of your summer! Gafas has all the shades you need to keep you going.
Earlier this year Dior announced that actress Mila Kunis would be the face of their new Dior Cherie campaign. We made a post about that decision a few months ago.
For the Dior sunglasses Fall-Winter 2012-2013 line Kunis was photographed by Mario Sorrenti, with a 1950′s Hollywood charm. The ladylike allure is strenuously valued through the high-finish brand making an item of highlighting how basic luxury could be. The black and whitened photoshoot transports us to a fashion-filled era whilst causing us to recognize the ‘constantly around the spotlight’ feeling the star encounters both off and on the camera. For the general looks, they have luxury created throughout them.
It will probably be a few months before we get any of this collection at Gafas. Keep checking the website for up to date info on if and when the new Dior’s will be coming in!
We at Gafas are huge fans of the Simpsons! Everyday at the shop there is usually at least one Simpson’s quote being uttered by the staff. Whether it’s, “Don’t have a cow man!” or “Disco Stu likes disco music.” there’s always something to be said about the community of Springfield. So, we thought it would be fun to look at some of the characters from the show and see if we can find glasses in our shop that the real versions of those characters would wear! Check out the comparisons below:
(Entourage of 7 – Kyle)
Milhouse, Bart Simpson’s trusty best friend, would definitely be found wearing these red frames from Entourage of 7. With that retro/Sally Jesse Raphael look these frames have a cool trendy factor to them that Milhouse would be completely oblivious to.
(Tom Ford – Samuele)
Just imagine these frames with purple lenses – which we can totally do. Only the master of suave, Disco Stu, can pull off glasses like these in Springfield. The epitomize fashion, style, and confidence, qualities that Disco Stu knows all about.
(Leisure Society – Bone )
Poor Hans Moleman is the butt of many jokes throughout Springfield. Due to his cataracts Hans is almost completely blind, which has resulted in him suffering unfortunate, seemingly fatal events. Because of this we thought these frames from Leisure Society would work with Hans. They’re simple, nothing really flashy about them, but on the right face (which isn’t Hans’) these frames would look great!
(Gold & Wood)
Springfield’s foremost nerdy scientist is known for being extremely intelligent, though somewhat mad and socially inept. Frink often tries to use his bizarre inventions to aid the town in its crises but they usually only make things worse. Though he sports a very fashionable bow-tie, for the most part Professor Frink is quite reserved in his everyday wear. Because of this we chose a rimless frame from Gold and Wood. They are simple. Sophisticated. And probably go with any ensemble….even if it’s a lab coat and bow-tie!
For his Fall-Winter 2012-2013 Collection, Tom Ford presents seven new sunglass frames and twenty-one new optical frames which are crafted with focus on design and fabrication. This season’s collection centers on women’s frames, stunning feminine colors and also the launch of the Exclusive Optical Edition collection that signifies the best in eyeglass craftsmanship and luxury. The brand new sunglass styles for ladies incorporate a mind-turning metal frame having a crisscross front. The gathering includes two new iterations from the aviator sunglass frame for males: the rounded Matteo frame and also the square-formed John frame. Keep your eyes glued to the Gafas website to find out if and when we’ll be getting this new collection of Tom Fords in the store!

This past Wednesday, July 18th, Nelson Mandela – the militant anti-apartheid activist who became the first President of South Africa to be elected in a fully representative democratic election – celebrated his 94th birthday! In 1962 Mandela was arrested and convicted of sabotage and other charges, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Mandela went on to serve 27 years in prison, spending many of these years on Robben Island. Following his release from prison on February 11th, 1990, Mandela led his party in the negotiations that resulted in the establishment of democracy in 1994. As President, Mandela frequently gave priority to reconciliation, while introducing policies aimed at combating poverty and inequality in South Africa.
New YSL creative director Hedi Slimane plans to change the house’s name to Saint Laurent Paris. This is part of Slimane’s plan to completely rebrand the house, including name. Since replacing Stefano Pilati, Slimane has been given complete creative control of the label’s image, and so this also means the end for the iconic YSL logo. Reports have confirmed that all merchandise will have the new branding by the time the Spring 2013 collection hits stores.
What does this mean for us? Not much really, except all the vintage YSL frames that we have will now be vintage relics!
The polarizing and outspoken filmmaker makes his long overdue return to the “Brooklyn Chronicles” with his new film Red Hook Summer. In this movie a middle-class boy from Atlanta finds his worldview changed as he spends the summer with his deeply religious grandfather in the housing projects of Red Hook, Brooklyn. Speaking with Vulture magazine Spike Lee let it be known that this is not a return to his roots,
“This is not Spike going back to his roots. Red Hook Summer is another chapter in my chronicles of Brooklyn. I am a professor at NYU—I’ve been one the last fifteen years—and one of the courses they are teaching in cinema studies this summer is “Scorsese’s New York.” The postcard has a map of Manhattan and a dot where each Scorsese film took place. For me, it’s Brooklyn. She’s Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, He Got Game, Clockers, Crooklyn, and Red Hook Summer.
