I went to see The Avengers with my old man the other day. Talk about action! High octane explosions mixed with intense hand to hand combat. A definite field day for any comic book nerd…or action movie fanatic! One thing I noticed, because of my interest in eyewear fashion, were the spectacles that Bruce Banner aka the Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo) was wearing throughout the film. Check out the pics below:
The frames Dr. Banner wears are simple, sophisticated, and slightly sexy. If you’re looking for frames with this kind of vibe check out the brands below, both of which can be found at Gafas!

For years, the NBA has been synonymous with style, culture, and trend setting. From Allen Iverson’s generation defining cornrows, to the craze over getting those new pairs of Jordan brand sneakers. It’s hard to deny how seamlessly fashion and the NBA blend together. With the growth in popularity of glasses becoming a fashion accessory, the NBA has found a new trend to jump onto. Such stars as Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Carmelo Anthony are all sporting stylish frames during their post-game interviews.
Check out the video below of Carmelo Anthony wearing some very fashionable frames:
Before she was the Academy Award winning activist that we recognize her for being now, Charlize Theron was just a simple girl growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa. As you can tell from the picture below, Charlize had major style…though she may not have realized it at the time!
Check out these pair of frames that would have made vintage Charlize proud!
Over the last few years A-list movie star, Johnny Depp, has become synomous with blue-tinted lenses. During the Japanese promotional tour for the third enstallment in the Pirates of the Caribbean Series, Captain Jack Sparrow’s blue lenses created quite the media buzz. Speculations have been made involving many theories as to why Depp is sporting these colourful lenses. Here are a couple of the more prominent ones:
Diet:
It turns out that for several years prior to Depp’s visit blue eyeglasses had been in the news in Japan for their purported appetite suppressant effect. In May 2005 a Japanese television program first reported that when the city of Glasgow, Scotland, changed some of their orangish street lights to bluish lights a mysterious effect was noticed: Glaswegians suddenly mellowed out and the city’s crime rate dropped. Some say this can be attributed to an increase in seratonin in the residents’ brains (an increase associated with blue light), which can affect mood, sleep, and appetite.
Migraine:
Coloured lenses effectively damp down the effects of lights or patterns that trigger visual migraine, explains Arnold Wilkins, professor of visual perception at Essex University. He goes on to say, “One theory is that using colour redistributes the excitement in the brain that occurs in a response to something such as stripes. By doing this, the hyperactivity in the brain is reduced when exposed to these triggers. Colorimetry, the science of how the brain perceives colour, is already being used to help people with epilepsy and dyslexia (disorders also related to brain excitablity). With dyslexia, for instance, colour filters have been shown to improve reading performance in many cases…”
Regardless of the reason, Johnny Depp has definitely made blue lenses fashionable. I guess we at Gafas need to hop on the blue-lense train pronto!
Last night I watched J. Edgar, Clint Eastwood’s detailed portrayal of the iconic figurehead of the FBI for nearly 50 years. It was a little slow at times, and in true Eastwood fashion there was a lot of dimly lit shots. The true standout in this film though, is Leo. How believable is DiCaprio you ask? Well, when I first heard he had been cast as Hoover, I couldn’t think of another actor physically less likely to pull it off. But he’s surprisingly good – especially, and even more surprisingly, in the many sequences of him as an older man.
DO YOU WANT THE HOOVER/DICAPRIO LOOK?
Come by Gafas and try on a pair of these Barton Perreira glasses
Aviators have been circulating the world since the 1930′s. They were originally designed for pilots, sole purpose being to protect their eyes while flying. Aviators are still one of the most popular styles around and come in so many variations and materials. Check out some of these aviators, we will call these Tony’s pics .. more to come …..

Like any pair of Chrome Hearts frames there’s an element of biker chic found in these classic aviator shapes, which give them a decidedly edgy look. Engraved with crosses on the metal temples, these “Pork Sword” sunglasses boast polarized tinted glasses, metal and tortoise acetate arms, and engraved solid silver daggers. These shades are so cool, you’ll want to wear them even when there’s no sun in sight.
