Lady Starlight Visits Gafas!
When we got the call from Chrissy at Vocab Communications that Lady Starlight was coming by the shop to find a pair of killer shades, we didn’t really know what to expect. There was a dispute as to whether or not getting several different types of flat and sparkling water was necessary. To err on the side of safety we did as well as grabbing a bottle of wine from Tony’s “secret” stash. It was evident the moment this accomplished little ball of energy rolled through the door that it had been unnecessary. She is laid-back, down-to-earth cool which is impressive considering her superstar credentials.

This pint-size dynamo is best known for her influential presence in the Haus of Gaga, and is attributed with creating the great Lady herself! The two met years ago when Lady Starlight was go-go dancing at a prominent NY party and since then the two have been getting into mischief together. She has collaborated with the Super Star since early 2007 on everything from fashion styling, onstage performance concepts and set design.
But outside of Gaga, who is this Lady Starlight? Lady Starlight was the original Lady, creating her go-go and DJ name from the song of the same title by The Sweet. She burst into the spotlight as a notorious rock ‘n roll nightlife queen of downtown in New York’s Lower East Side club scene in the early 2000s. Since then she has been influential in shaping the party scene, including the ever popular Monster Ball parties, combining experimental performance art with 70s glam and 80s metal. She was voted the Best Female Hard Core Rock DJ by L Magazine in 2008 and regularly DJs in NY, LA, and London.
And that’s not all folks….She also produces art house films and music videos and even filmed Lady Gaga’s 2009 tour. She writes a popular rock fashion themed blog, Lady Starlight’s Rock ‘N Roll Highschool, is a contributing writer for Classic Rock Magazine and the online youth culture magazine Platform. She is also a MAC PRO makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics.
Lady Starlight’s mission is “to push rock ‘n roll back into the pop culture spotlight while introducing this decadent world to a new generation of fans.”
Back at Gafas, Lady Starlight was having a tough time choosing which shades she should go with (‘cuz c’mon, our stock is hot!).
She finally settled on these Cazal aviators. So bad-ass!
It was great having Lady Starlight in the shop. The next day, she wore her new shades on ETalk. Check out the episode. The clip of Lady Starlight is about 2:00 minutes in!
