What are you doing this weekend??
The final weekend of the summer is here! Wow how quickly it has gone by…some of my fondest memories will be: The World Cup, The Olympics, The Dark Knight Rises, and the beautiful, beautiful weather we have had. This weekend brings with it an abundance of events to cap off what has been an incredible summer. Here are a few of Gafas’ top choices of things to do this long weekend.
Air Show
The 63rd annual Canadian International Airshow is scheduled to be it’s best one yet. Taking place all weekend long, the airshow takes over the CNE with an array of planes and shows to entertain all types of people.
CNE
Wrapping up this weekend after a successful 18-day fair, the CNE draws a huge crowd because of its rides, attractions, and of course the Bacon! If you haven’t gone yet, this weekend would be a good time to check it out.
Shakespeare in the Ruff
Toronto’s newest outdoor theatre company, Shakespeare in the Ruff has been bringing some heavy buzz to the Withrow Park community. Closing their production of Two Gents (an adaptation of Bill Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona) while debuting their youth company – The Young Ruffians – this weekend is a great one to go and watch some theatre in the park. Check out their website for more details – www.shakespeareintheruff.com
Star Trek Live
One of the most popular sci-fi franchises of all time is at the Science Centre with Star Trek Live. The 30 minute interactive show will have visitors join Starfleet Academy before being sent off to save the Earth from a Romulan attack. On-screen appearances by Captain Kirk and Spock, NASA technology and the science behind space travel all make up the inter-galactic fun.
And just like that Terrell Owens is gone…
“Get your popcorn ready” is the famous tag-line of unwanted, future NFL Hall of Famer, Terrell Owens. In TO’s current case, the appropriate type of popcorn would be excessively filled with butter to the point where it no longer has any taste….but butter. For the past three seasons TO has been nose-diving into oblivion, and with his recent release from the Seattle Seahawks he is one stop closer to NEVER playing in the NFL again. A sad story for one of the more dominate wide receivers the game has ever seen.
need sunglasses? We have tons!!!
With the unofficial last weekend of the summer fast approaching it’s time to head north for that final cottage getaway. Frame of the Day – Linda Farrow Collabo
Alexander Wang, one of the most sought-after designers in the world, teamed up with the good people at Linda Farrow to create some pretty amazing eyewear pieces. Creativity, originality, fashionable, along with some interesting quirks (they have a pair of glasses called The Zipper that uses the same zipper from Wang handbags) exemplify what this unique collaboration is offering. Drop by Gafas today to try on our wide range of Linda Farrow Collaborations, including some very funky Alexander Wangs.
Frame of the Day: Masunaga – 018
Since 1905 Japanese eyewear manufacturer, Masunaga, has been setting the standard for quality and care when it comes to glasses. Handmade in Japan with the finest of acetate, along with the beautiful pallet or colours used for their frames, ensures that Masunaga will continue to be a trendsetter in the eyewear world.
These frames, vintage inspired no doubt, boast a unique two-tone colour that opens your face and allows a brighter and crisper field of vision. Masunaga may be old, but they are tried and tested. Stop by Gafas today and try on a pair for yourself.
The Era of “Chavril” is about to begin
Step aside Dallas Green & Leah Miller. Move to the left Elisha Cuthbert & Dion Phaneuf. Your time is over Scott Jones & Alex Thomas (the famous Vancouver kissing couple). There is a new Canadian Power Couple on the block: Avril Lavigne & Chad Kroeger (of Nickelback). Two of Canada’s most successful, and yet ridiculed, musicians have announced that they will be tying the knot. This announcement has garnered sincere congratulations from the few fans both artists have left. The other, more popular response, has been that of sarcasm and derision. Google “Tweets about Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger” if you want a laugh. At Gafas we’re not about bringing other people down. We wish Avril & Chad a wonderful marriage together that hopefully will last longer than 72 days *we’re looking at you Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries*
